Privacy and data handling

StoryScreen is open to any newsroom, with no sign-in and no stored reviews.

How your drafts are handled

Draft text is transmitted to an AI screening service for analysis and returned to your browser. Reviews are not saved to any database and no account is created. Uploaded text files are read in your browser only and are never uploaded to a server.

Do not enter a confidential source’s identity or privileged attorney-client communications. Describe a source’s basis of knowledge instead of identifying them.

Results live only in the browser tab where the screening ran. Download the review record or email it to yourself or an editor before closing the tab; closing it discards the results permanently.

Limitations of this tool

Screening is automated and may miss serious problems or flag language that is accurate and well supported. It cannot verify facts, read your documents, evaluate sources or predict how a court would rule.

This application provides an automated prepublication risk screening for editorial purposes. It does not provide legal advice, create an attorney-client relationship or determine whether material is legally safe to publish. Final decisions remain with newsroom leadership and qualified legal counsel.
